Cave Preserves

Bentleys Cave Preserve

Bentleys Karst Preserve was donated by Mr and Mrs Bentley in fall of 2009. The preserve is situated on top of a hill in Berlin, NY and consists of about 5 acres.

The largest of the caves is Bentley's Cavern with approximately 1000 feet of passage. The entrance to the cave is in the edge of a small cliff, and opens into a large passageway with a tall ceiling. The passageway terminates into a low crawl where a stream enters the cave.

Dry Valley Cave was discovered in 1991.

Access to the caves requires no special permission. Visitors are simply asked to sign in and out at the register near the parking area. For all caves standard caving gear is required. This includes:

  • Helmet with a chinstrap.
  • Three (3) sources of light, one of which is mounted to the helmet
  • At least 3 people in the party.

If you have questions about this preserve, please contact the preserve manager at bentleys@necaveconservancy.org
